About the Author                

     Vera Reeves has worked with more than 3,000 dogs and their owners. She has been training dogs and improving canine-human relationships for thirty-five years. For ten years, she apprenticed and perfected her skill under the guidance of master trainers in the Police Dog Association in Kiel, Germany.

     After immigrating to California, some twenty-eight years ago, Vera became a kennel manager and oversaw the training and care of 85 commercial guard dogs and taught dog obedience and personal protection classes for the general public. She later founded her own dog training school in the San Francisco Bay Area, which she ran as head trainer for twelve years. During this time, she taught a course at Foothill College in Los Altos, south of San Francisco, on dog behavior and safety around dogs. She also conducted classes for aspiring dog trainers (State of California accredited curriculum). In 1989, she moved to Marin County, California, and assumed co-ownership of Atherton Acres Kennels, a well-known boarding and training facility.

     For more than twenty years, Vera served as training director on the boards of a number of dog clubs, helping other trainers prepare their dogs for competition. For ten years, she was president and international liaison of the Working Riesenschnauzer Federation, a member of the global International Schnauzer-Pinscher Union, where she currently holds the position of director and international liaison. To keep her training skills sharp, she annually attends several seminars and symposiums worldwide and has continued to compete and train in Versatility and Schutzhund dog sports.

     In addition, Vera has been a consultant to attorneys in legal matters concerning dogs, and is certified as expert witness about dog behavior in Federal Court. Vera is available for seminars and presentations. Please contact her at: vera@barking-up-the-right-tree.com.
